Laurie has extensive experience on both sides of the civil bar, having started her career at a leading insurance defence firm before moving to a civil litigation boutique. Her practice centers on professional negligence claims, where she frequently represents hospitals, architects, engineers, and accountants. She also regularly handles complex commercial disputes with a particular focus on financial crimes and their associated injunctive relief.

She has appeared before all levels of Ontario courts, including the Court of Appeal of Ontario, as well as numerous administrative tribunals.

A lifelong equestrian, Laurie also often counsels clients on a variety of equine-specific legal issues, including breach of sale and lease agreements, payment disputes and Innkeepers Act enforcement, injury and loss of use, veterinary malpractice, and social media defamation and disparagement. Laurie’s training as a horsewoman and a lawyer allow her to appreciate the factual nuance of these matters and to effectively translate them to a lay audience.

Laurie is a regular contributor to CPD programming and the Pro Bono Ontario legal advice hotline. She has also served as the Public Affairs Liaison on the Ontario Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Executive, advising on proposed changes to provincial regulations and legislation including the Rules of Civil Procedure.
